The BLACK Women in MUSIC Festival (The BWIMF) is not just a festival. It is a movement, a safe space, and a cultural homecoming.
Born from the souls of Black People, Black Music and the lived experiences of Black Women in America and the Diaspora, The BWIMF is a celebration of our history, our creativity, and our power to heal and uplift. We honor the legacy of the music that once centered Black women—where every lyric, every note, and every image reflected our beauty, our love, and our strength. Whether written and sung by Black men or Black Women, the focus was always on loving the Black Woman.
In fact, the reason these Black men became famous at all was explicitly due to the love and support of the Black Woman. Without her love of his music to her, and about her, buying their songs, and supporting their concerts and performances, they would not have been the superstars they became. And the men who also purchased these recordings, did so because of the love of the music and the Black Women they sang about.
The music spoke to their souls through the lyrics and the talented artists who performed them. Thus, the reason Black Music was called Soul Music.
The Soul of the Music spoke to the Souls of Black People.
